About "Modus. Art History Journal"

Initially Institute of Art History Jagiellonian University published its journal entitled “Papers of Art History” as part of the “Jagiellonian University's Scientific Papers”. After the transformation of the political system in Poland, under new editorial conditions, Institute decided to create an independent journal. So in 1999, “Modus. Art History Journal”  was created and received ISSN number 1641-9715.

The Journal is open for all papers form history of art, cultural history, architecture, design and many more; it publishes longer dissertations, articles, book reviews and miscellanea of ​​scholars connected with the Institute and authors from all Polish and foreign art history centers. The main language of the journal was Polish, but texts in congress languages ​​(English, German, French) are also published. Since the vol. 18. (2018) “Modus” is starting to publish bilingual – Polish and English translation of the papers. Moreover since the vol. 17. (2017) each of “Modus” issues are printed both in paper and electronic version, under the e-ISSN number 2545-3882. Electronic copies are available online on the Societas Vistulana Society Publishing House website and on our website (www.modus.ihs.uj.edu.pl) in the “Online numbers” section.

The journal’s connection with the Institute of Art History is emphasized by publishing teh Chronicle of Institute, which brings news about scientific events, personnel changes and MA and PhD theses.
